What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a gentle treatment that involves the insertion of rounded tip needles into the tissue of the body. It is an ancient treatment developed in Traditional Chinese Medicine to help improve the balance or flow of Qi (chee). It has been adapted in North America and is thought to improve the homeostasis within cells of the body. Needles are inserted into specific anatomical points to stimulate therapeutic effects.

Therapeutic effects include:

    > decreased pain by causing release of endorphins- natural pain-relieving neurohormones

    > increased energy

    > improvement in body function

Is Acupuncture Safe?

Yes! Practitioners are trained in a certified program involving both hands-on practical exams as well as written exams prior to certification. Needles are single-use and disposable. The most common side effects include bleeding, bruising, and soreness post treatment. Very rare serious side effects include injury to an internal organ and pneumothorax. These risks can be mitigated by proper insertion of needles.
